White Dots Train
Punching boards — panels punched through with small white holes — were fitted to every window of Kiha 203, a retired diesel railcar. From the outside, the windows had become a field of white dots. Depending on the angle of light and where you stood, strange striped patterns appeared across the surface — moiré.
Step inside and a different world waited. Light entering through the windows passed through the punching boards and fell across the interior as fine, scattered dots. Like dappled sunlight filtering through leaves. Like snow falling gently. From outside, the car appeared as a quiet, luminous screen.
Depending on which side you approached from, you encountered an entirely different work. Only small holes and light — and yet a mass of iron became something else entirely.
