Brilliant Noise in Train
At the end of summer, white incandescent bulbs lined the platform of Nakaminato Station in Ibaraki. You could hear a train approaching in the distance. The bulbs began to glow. As the train arrived with a roar, they blazed all at once. Then, as it pulled away, the light slowly dimmed again.
This work expanded Brilliant Noise — originally installed beneath an elevated railway in Kobe — into a working railway station platform. Every sound the station produced became a source of light: the rumble of trains, announcements over the PA, the voices of passengers waiting. Each arrival and departure was marked by a space that blazed and then faded, quietly.
