Brilliant Noise
"Brilliant Noise" is an installation where incandescent bulbs suspended from the ceiling light up in response to sounds, visualizing the activity of the city. Human voice, car noise and the sound of trains running overhead affect the brightness of the bulbs.
Kobe Biennale 2011: Installed in a skeletal concrete space under the elevated train tracks of Motomachi, Kobe. The bulbs were hung in a grid and blinked with the sound of passing trains and the voices of the shopping street. During the exhibition, the space was opened for live performances and radio broadcasts (→ Kobe Biennale 2011).
Nakaminato platform version: In 2012 the work was expanded onto the platform of Nakaminato Station in Ibaraki → Brilliant Noise [Minato].
Collaborations: Performed with Trinite (May 2012), three saxophonists at Saravah Tokyo (July 2012), Japanese Rakugo performer Sanyu-tei Yujaku at Yokohama Jaraku-tei (November 2012), and at Shibuyagawa Film Festival (October 2016).
