Arom
A glass vessel sits quietly on the table, glowing. When music plays, the light sways gently. As conversation grows livelier, the light shimmers more. When someone sings, it responds like a flame.
Arom is a sound-reactive LED candle light. A microphone picks up ambient sound, and an analog circuit processes it directly into a warm, flickering glow. Because no digital processing is involved, the light behaves in an unpredictable, organic way — much like a real candle. Released November 2018.
It is the distillation of Zero by Zero's "sound into light" technology — developed over years of large-scale installation work — into a handheld product.
Collaboration with Sghr Sugahara
The glass component is crafted by Sghr Sugahara, a studio glassmaker with a factory in Kujukuri, Chiba. Each piece is mouth-blown by hand, shaped by craft and chance into a form that no machine could replicate. The warmth of handmade glass makes Arom's light all the more luminous. Sghr's mission — "enriching everyday life" — resonates deeply with Arom's own design philosophy.
